BEAR ATTACK!

Dear George,

i bring sad news.  The worlds oldest panda died at the ripe old age of 34..that's just 4 years older than me!  I wonder if he went to Center Parcs for his 30th?  Somehow i can imagine having a giant weighty body lying around in the all together, eating and growling...

...BEAR ATTACK!!!!

It's the champions league final tonight and it's happening in London. Another reason i envy you and wish i wasn't here.

The world is still obsessed with Pippa Middleton's bum and there's a rumour that ex Lib dem MP Lembit Opik will run for mayor of London. I can only imagine what strange new world you'll be returning home to.

Bonanza!

Dear George,

It has occurred to me that not everyone knows the show 'Bonanza'... This came to my attention as i tried in vain to describe the theme tune on the train home last night to a crowd of bemused faces.  So here is that tune for you to play back at you leisure.

A classic i'm sure you agree.  It's no wonder Osama Bin Laden enjoyed it so much...i wonder if he hummed the theme tune to himself?

Anyway, today is Friday.  It is a long old day here at the theatre, 2 shows and a late late finish.  This morning i recorded the first podcast...well the first podcast i recorded properly as an MP3 and at a decent sound level so it doesn't sound like i'd recorded it under water.  In it i tried to push the subject towards whether or not it was a good idea to show 15 or 18 rated movies to any offspring i may have.  What a moral quandary i thought...however, somehow we disscused Saturday afternoon telly.  At the risk of sounding like a Peter Kaye routine do you remember the game show 'You Bet'? They don't have shows like that anymore... hmmm, on reflection maybe that's for the best.

Hope the adventure's going well mate.  I just watch your video where you "lose" Noodles.  I'll be honest my heart sank when i thought he'd gone.  How many time's have you been drunk so far on this trip? You should have a running tally of how many beers you drink.

I'm signing off for now bud, 'Eastenders' is on in a bit and it was a wee bit emotional last night..i should really keep an eye on 'Neighbours' for you can keep you up to date.

Bye bye for now

Cannon Ball time!!

It was the start of the Gumball 3000 today in covent garden.  Lots of very sexy looking cars. I'm sure the whole thing would have looked so much better if all the cars taking part were not being held up by taxis, bin lorries and cyclists. it did rather take the shine off the occasion, factor that in with the torrential rain we received for the first time in an age...BUT the event wasn't a total wash out because The Hoff was there to start the race.  The whole thing reminded me of the movie Cannonball Run...just without Burt Renyolds, or the big boobed ladies, or Captin Chaos, or the money in the second film, or Sammy Davis Jr, or....

X factor drops Cheryl Cole...and far more important things happen but are not deemed as important by the media...

Dear George

I arrived at work learning the devastating news that Cheryl Cole had been dropped from the US version of the X factor...i say "devastating" no one i spoke to really cared but the media were acting as if President Obama had been assassinated! Daybreak seemed genuinely upset by the news you could tell from Adrian Charles' grave looking face.

So not a lot happened yesterday.  I spent a large majority of the afternoon/evening watching clever Adam Curtis documentaries.  I don't know if you've seem any of them but in my opinion they are mind blowing. Very interesting and entertaining...i'm going to try and put up the trailer for his latest TV programme.

One of the most memorable facts from my clever thought provoking afternoon was that Osama Bin Laden's favourite TV show was 'Bonanza'...make of that what you will.

Developing news

I saw this and imagined you getting into a similar mishap on your travels. Getting wedged in somewhere with your bag on your back. (CLICK ON THE TITLE "DEVELOPING NEWS")

I once got trapped in a cupboard for 10mins when i was 9 years old...and once i got stuck in a tiny service lift for 2 hours with my friend Ian House when i was about 13 years old. It was a service lift in a big manor over in Morten Morrell, it was part of the college campus. We'd broken in the main house while there was an open day at the college. We'd been riding up and down in the lift all afternoon. Ian started swaying the lift as it moved (why the fuck we thought that was a good idea is beyond me!) and all of a sudden it stopped between floors and Ian's brother had to dash off to find someone to help us. I'll always remember as we finally climbed out, the caretaker (or at least i think he was a caretaker) had a big smile on his face and said "you guys are going to be in deep shit"... And we were.

World News update

Dear George,

So here is the news in brief for the last few weeks. I’ve just picked out the important stuff for your education/entertainment

• The UK voted NO to change the voting system.

• Navy SEALS shot and killed Osama Bin Laden and already conspiracy theorist are saying it didn’t happen

• The has been boy band BLUE represented the UK in the Eurovision song contest and JEDWOOD represented Ireland! We didn’t win but we didn’t do too badly for a change…it was won by Azerbaijan!

• The Queen went to Ireland and visited the Guinness Warehouse BUT didn’t partake in any of the black creamy goodness…and as I type this the President Obama is there and will be coming over to England in a few days.

• A report has been published that claims there are 40 new “legal highs” in Europe

• That blinking Iceland ash cloud is causing havoc for people flying into the UK

• The papers were saying that Ryan Giggs was going to sue twitter because people had been tweeting him in relation to an affair he’d had with an ex-big brother contestant…this is a story that will run forever it would seem.

So that’s the general jist of the news, as for me it’s been busy. The show is coming off in just over a month and there’s a lot to do. We’ll be dark for 2 months after that…and when I say dark I don’t mean for 2 months we’ll all be walking around the theatre blacked-up doing jazz hands! Not sure what the next show is just yet but the rumour is it’s a play based on the movie ‘Cool hand Luke’. If you get chance to watch it do because it’s an awesome film. In one scene the guy “Luke” bets he can eat 50 hard-boiled eggs in a row. I’ll be interested to see how that is done on stage.

It was Sophie’s birthday last week. I cooked her dinner and made a chocolate cake from scratch…yeah look impressed! Today is Laura’s birthday (you remember her, right?) I bought her some perfume “Devil woman” by Cliff Richard, I know what a woman wants.

I’ll sign off for now, I need o get back to editing and uploading files of these pod casts.

Take care buddy

The Podcast is on it's way...

Dear George,
I am but a few days away from uploading the 1st of many 'Chinaman's Adventure Podcast'. We recorded a piolt episode last week to try out my fancy new TASCAM recorder but sadly in my rush to bring you current events i'd not recorded it as an MP3 file, which, i've been told, is a bad thing. Still, i hope you are well and not missing Blighty too much. I've yet to switch on the TV or listen to any news but rest assure my finger is on the pulse of society and i'll get you up to date.

Let the Adventure begin!

I realise that this is getting on to be a good 3 weeks late but Little Dave is a busy man and I’m not as computer-savy as I once thought…However, the day you left us all standing looking a little lost at Victoria coach station was a historic day in our friendship and with that in mind I’d like to tell you about other events in that have occurred on May 8th…

1821 – Greek War of Independence: The Greeks defeat the Turks at the Battle of Gravia.

1886 – Pharmacist John Styth Pemberton first sells a carbonated beverage named "Coca-Cola" as a patent medicine.

1912 – Paramount Pictures is founded.

1933 – Mohandas Gandhi begins a 21-day fast in protest against British oppression in India.

1941 – The German Luftwaffe launch a bombing raid on Nottingham and Derby

1945 – World War II: V-E Day, combat ends in Europe. German forces agree in Rheims, France, to an unconditional surrender.

1980 – The eradication of smallpox is endorsed by the World Health Organization.

1884 – Harry S. Truman, President of the United States (d. 1972)

Fascinating stuff I’m sure you’ll agree(!). If that wasn’t enough just see the select few who share their birthday with you great departure…

1926 – David Attenborough, English naturalist

1935 – Jack Charlton, English footballer

1944 – Gary Glitter, English singer

1975 – Enrique Iglesias, Spanish singer
